Lead Software Engineer - NoRILLA
NoRILLA is a spinoff based on research in Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University. We are developing a new patented mixed-reality educational system bridging the physical and virtual worlds to improve children's STEM learning and enjoyment in a collaborative way. It uses depth camera sensing and computer vision to detect physical objects and provide personalized immediate feedback to children as they experiment and make discoveries in their physical environment.
NoRILLA has been used at multiple school districts, Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Science Center, and informal play spaces like IKEA and Bright Horizons. Research with hundreds of children has shown that it improves children's learning by 5 times compared to an equivalent tablet or computer games. It has been awarded Mister Rogers Scholarship, Sprout's EdTech Refinery grant, National Science Foundation (NSF) grants, and Innovation Fellowship through the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at CMU to turn our research into a start-up to benefit society. It also recently received a Golden Award in Cultivating Curiosity at Reimagine Education. We have recently received an NSF (Advancing Informal STEM Learning) grant in collaboration with Science and Children's Museums around the country and Boys and Girls Clubs to expand our Intelligent Science Stations/Exhibits.
