Mechanical Designer/Drafter Position Summary

The Mechanical Designer/Drafter (Designer) works in a cooperative team environment with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software engineers, designers and technicians. The Designer creates and prepares detailed mechanical drawings including BOM’s and supports them through prototype and manufacturing. AS degree in mechanical drafting and design with a minimum of 7 years of experience;
Proficient in mechanical design, drafting and modeling of machine parts, assemblies and subassemblies using 3D CAD preferably with Solidworks which convey engineering intent through clear, complete, inspectable drawing, tolerance definition, GD&T with a minimum of 7 years of experience;
Proficiency creating assembly models and drawings which define a BOM, assembly instructions and QC criteria;
U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency in order to comply with Government contracts;


The Designer reports to the mechanical engineering department manager and is responsible for carrying out assignments with minor supervision. Working on collaborative cross-discipline project teams, the Designer will create clear, concise detailed drawings of parts and assemblies in accordance with engineering direction. The Designer will create drawings from engineering sketches and through reverse engineering of manufactured prototype parts. Throughout the prototyping and production phases, the Designer will work with manufacturers for component fabrication and with engineers and technicians for system assembly and integration. The Designer must manage their time effectively to meet project, departmental, and Company goals, milestones and budgets.

Experience with precision mechanisms
Proficiency with a formal design process applied to a sub-systems or systems
Demonstrated ability to work successfully on development teams, meeting technical, schedule and budget goals
Experience preparing documentation for bid proposals, proposal drawings and pricing
Proficiency in revision controlled mechanical 3D CAD and vaulting system (Solidworks and EPDM preferred)
Proficiency in materials, finishes and manufacturing processes
Working knowledge of design of electrical cabling and wiring systems including wire routing, grounding, shield management, connector systems, environmental sealing and production methods
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Strong interpersonal and written communications skills in English
